Police: Man steals purse & uses money to buy heroin

MADEIRA, OH (FOX19)- A man is in custody after police say he stole a woman's purse and used $200 dollars of her money to buy heroin.

Madeira Police say John Spinnie, 45, entered Connections Christian Church on Galbraith Road around 1:00pm Wednesday and told a worker inside he didn't have any money and was having vehicle problems.

After Spinnie left the church, the victim noticed her purse was missing that contained personal belongings and $500 cash and called police.

Investigators were able to find Spinnie because he left behind a folder with his personal information inside.

Norwood Police Officers later located Spinnie and he admitted to the theft and told officers where he disposed of the purse.

Madeira's K-9, Amigo, searched the roadside along the Norwood Lateral and after about a 30-minute search, he came out of the wooded area with a purse in his mouth.

SPRINGFIELD TWP, OH (FOX19)- A Hamilton County jury has found a Springfield Township father guilty on two counts of murder in the death of his 15-month old daughter.

The jury also found Thomas Huge not guilty on an aggravated murder charge, which means Huge cannot be sentenced to death in the case.

On September 7, 2010, Huge called 911 reporting that his daughter, Kayli, was not breathing.

She was taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Circumstances around the infant's death caused police to arrest Huge and charge him with murder.

Underwood Chooses Villanova

Underwood Chooses Villanova

Even as he’s preparing for his own upcoming freshman year at Villanova University in Pennsylvania, Winton Woods High School senior Gary Underwood has some advice for students who will be attending the high school for the first time next fall. “Surround yourself with the right group of people,” Underwood said. “Don’t slack off your freshman year, because you don’t want to hear the counselor say you’re not going to graduate.”

Underwood himself is graduating with a full scholarship to play football at Villanova University next year and plans to pursue a liberal arts degree with the possibility of studying sports management. In addition to his own hard work, it was the encouragement of his coaches, Andre Parker and Calvin Johnson, that has helped prepare him for college life. “They motivated me and talked about what I had to do to be great,” said Underwood.

Simple Service Saturday helps local residents

Simple Service Saturday helps local residents

Over 70 volunteers came together on Simple Service Saturday, a community service outreach partnership between Winton Woods City Schools and Messiah Lutheran Church, to serve senior citizens living in Greenhills and its surrounding communities. “April 28 started out to be a rainy day, but we were able to finish all our tasks,” said June Tessin of Messiah Lutheran.

Students from the Academy of Global Studies @ Winton Woods High School, WWHS Key Club members, and volunteers from Messiah Lutheran helped nine residents with yard work that included cleaning out flower beds, mulching, and planting flowers. “The day was a huge success, and we plan on helping our residents again in the fall,” said Tessin.
