Public Library’s first Comic Con is May 5

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Comic book fans assemble! It’s time for the first Comic Con event Sunday, May 5, from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. in the atrium at the Main Library. 

The Library is joining forces with Arcadian Comics & Games and the Friends of the Public Library to present an afternoon filled with a comic book swap, booths, a comic book exhibit, a panel discussion with writers and illustrators, the Comic Con Drawing Contest award ceremony, the opportunity to take pictures with your favorite characters (Stormtroopers, Mandalorian Mercs, X-Men characters and more), and free comic books in celebration of Free Comic Book Day.

SHARONVILLE, OH (FOX19) –The Hamilton County Park District is presenting the 2013 Photography Travel Series  at Sharon Woods Sharon Centre. 

These programs offer a unique look around the world with commentary by local photographers.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the speaker and topic for tonight's Photography Travel Series at Sharon Woods has changed. The topic, English Channel Islands and Normandy Beaches; Echos of WWII by Neal Jefferies, has been chaged to Driving Route 66 by Cliff Goosemann.

The Photography Travel Series is free and open to the public. Sharon Centre is located at 11450 Lebanon Road (US 42), Sharonville. A valid Hamilton County Park District Motor Vehicle Permit ($10.00 annual; $3.00 daily) is required to enter the parks.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Due to a family obligation, Triple Crown publisher and author Vickie Stringer had to cancel her April 28 appearance at the Main Library.

At this time there are no plans to reschedule the event.

The Public Library is sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused, but invites the public to come to other upcoming author events, including Ohioana on April 21, Comic Con on May 5, author Patricia Schultz on May 11, and author Khaled Hosseini on May 31.

Planned benefit will place the spotlight on arts in Sharonville

SHARONVILLE, OH (FOX19) - A benefit is being held for the Sharonville Fine Arts Center on Friday, April 19 at 5:30pm.

Spotlight on the Arts Gala will feature dinner, entertainment and auction and raffle items including; a week stay in Orlando in with Disney and Universal Studio passes, Indianapolis 500 package for four and a staycation at Great Wolf Lodge in Mason with Kings Island tickets.

Entertainment is being provided by Anna & Milovan and DramatiConnections performing from Seussical.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Every year in April, the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County and the Kenton County Public Library come together for El Dia de los Niños / Dia de los Libros (or Children’s Day / Book Day). It’s an exciting multicultural fiesta where books become the bridges for children and their families to celebrate literacy across different cultures and backgrounds. From year to year, El Dia rotates across the Ohio River. This year, the free festivities will take place Saturday, April 27, from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. at the Bond Hill Branch Library.

Readers invited to connect with authors, publishers during April 21 Ohioana event

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is hosting the “Ohioana 2013: Connecting Readers and Hamilton County Writers” at the Main Library Sunday, April 21, at 1:45 p.m. This literary event not only honors authors from Hamilton County, it gives readers a chance to interact with them, sit in on an author panel discussion, and learn more about the publishing world.

During Ohioana, the Cooper Award will be presented to Writer’s Digest / F&W Media. Created in 2003 and named for the founding family of Ohioana, the Cooper Award is given to an individual or organization that has made outstanding contributions to the promotion of books and reading in Hamilton County. Past winners include Andrea Cheng, Buck Niehoff, Sharon Draper, Will Hillenbrand, and The Friends of the Public Library.

Dates set for painted pots and sale at Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve will be in full swing for spring with Painted Pots Week on April 19 through May 3, Painted Pots Weekend May 4 and 5 and a Spring Plant Sale, April 19 through May 5.

Clay planting pots will be available for painting and decorating on the front porch of the Nature’s Niche Gifts & Books from April 19 through May 3, 11 am to 4 pm daily and 12 pm to 3 pm on Sundays. Visitors are encouraged to leave their pots when they are finished, which will be hung playfully from the trees throughout the park. They also have the option to take their pots home for a fee of $5.00.

On May 4 and 5 from 12 pm to 4 pm, visitors can pick a hanging pot and plant a flower in it. There will also be other fun activities like tie dyeing, taking a wildflower hike, listening to music, decorating a flower cookie and more.
