Locals who were involved will speak on Jewish athletes pulled from the 1936 "Nazi Olympics"

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Cincinnatians Harry Stoller, the half-brother of 1936 Olympian Sam Stoller, and Al Miller, who attended the 1936 Olympics, will speak at an interactive lecture event with author David Clay Large on why Marty Glickman and Sam Stoller—the only two Jews on the 1936 Olympic American track and field team who were in Berlin for the games—were pulled from the race at the last minute. 

Dr. Large, a history professor at Montana State University, is the author of "Nazi Games". 

The event will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at The Jacob Rader Marcus Center, 3101 Clifton Avenue, 45220. 

A special exhibit, “Nazi Olympics 1936” will open at the 4:30 p.m. reception, and will be on display for a limited time.  The lecture and discussion will follow at 5:30 p.m.

Festival of Lights opens to Zoo members Wednesday night

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The Cincinnati Zoo is about to kick off tri-state’s longest running holiday tradition – the 29th Annual PNC Festival of Lights. The event kicks off with a special preview event on Wednesday as two million LED lights illuminate the Zoo. 

The Preview Night is only open to Zoo members, invited media and sponsors.  

The Preview Night features Cincinnati recording artist and TV host Nick Lachey, and Ciara Bravo of Nickelodeon’s “Big Time Rush”, at the annual tree-lighting ceremony.  There will also be puppet shows from the Madcap Puppets, and a light show on Swan Lake. 

The event opens to everybody on Friday, November 25.

FAIRFAX, OH (FOX19) - The Eisele Gallery of Fine Art has curated an exhibition and sale of original paintings by two of the most celebrated contemporary artists of our time, Wildlife Artist John A. Ruthven and Maritime Artist John Stobart. 

Ruthven, a Cincinnati native who now lives in Brown County, and Stobart will tell tales of their lives in a fascinating and informative lecture in the Mariemont Theater at 10 a.m. on Thursday December 8, 2011.

UC's College-Conservatory of Music Receives $1 Million Donation

CINCINNATI, (FOX19) - The University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) Friday announced the receipt of a $1 million donation, bequeathed from the late Betty Jean (Seeger) Dannenfelser.  The gift - which came as a surprise to CCM faculty and staff - will be used to establish a student scholarship fund and enhance CCM faculty support. 

"The soon-to-be-established Betty J. Dannenfelser Memorial Scholarship will permit CCM to recruit many generations of the very best students and attract top-notch faculty, allowing CCM to maintain its international reputation as one of the world's leading conservatories," said Peter Landgren, Dean of CCM. "Through her generosity, she has made a lasting statement about the importance of the performing and media arts and their value to our community and beyond." 

Dannenfelser's gift is an extension of her longtime patronage of the local arts.

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The Cincinnati Preservation Association celebrated some of the best structures in the city this weekend at their annual meeting, itself held in a historic school building.  Here's a release form the CPA with all the winners. 

(CINCINNATI, OHIO) On November 13th, Cincinnati Preservation Association (CPA) presented its annual Preservation Awards for 2011 at its 47th Annual Meeting, which was held at Hughes High School. Before an audience of 70 members and guests, CPA presented eight awards for achievement in historic preservation in two categories: Rehabilitation and Sustainability. CPA’s Advocacy Committee, chaired by Arthur Sturbaum, reviewed the award nominations submitted and chose the winners.

Two awards honored restoration and renovation of great public buildings and spaces: Hughes High School and City Council Chambers. CPA commends the City of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Public Schools for their stewardship of these landmarks.

Popular Clay Alliance Holiday Fair Returns to Clifton

CLIFTON, OH (FOX19) - As the holiday season rapidly approaches, shopping for that unique gift just got a little easier. The Clay Alliance annual Holiday Fair, showcasing the diverse talents of 35 members, returns Saturday, December 10, to the Clifton Cultural Arts Center in the historic Clifton Elementary School at 3711 Clifton Avenue. Hours for the fair are 11 am to 5 pm.

Visitors to the show can expect to find a wide variety of pottery – functional wares to decorative art pieces – for themselves or gift-giving. Included are jewelry, items for the home and garden, ornaments, seasonal items, and one-of-a-kind sculpture. Credit cards are accepted.

"We're excited to be back here. The soaring ceiling, the open lobby and the Rookwood tile drinking fountains add a perfect ambience for our eclectic group of clay artists," said co-chair Pam Duncan.

Film shot locally to premiere at Esquire Theater

CLIFTON, OH (FOX19) - Local screenwriter and producer Laurie Sims is screening her film "Some Where in the Middle" at the Esquire Theater. There will be a reception prior to the movie at Olives restaurant at 5pm on Thursday, November 10, the movie showing is at 7:30pm.

The film is a suspenseful drama about the good and bad choices of a young woman.
