‘Check In @ Your Library’ during Teen Tech Week March 10-16

‘Check In @ Your Library’ during Teen Tech Week March 10-16

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The theme for this year’s Teen Tech Week™ (March 10-16) is “Check In @ Your Library!” It is an opportunity for the Public Library to throw open its physical and virtual doors to teens and showcase the outstanding technology we offer, from services such as online homework help to resources like e-books, e-music, e-audiobooks, and more.

Teens’ use of technology increased dramatically in recent years, yet more teens are doing this from home instead of the Library. The Pew Internet & American Life project found that 93% of teens go online, with many using social networking sites, finding news and information, sharing content they create, and looking for information on health. Teens need to know that the Library is a trusted resource for accessing information and that librarians are the experts who can help them develop the skills they need to use electronic resources effectively and efficiently.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Now in its 12th year, On The Same Page brings community-wide reading full circle. Thanks to readers like you who enjoy the togetherness of sharing a thought-provoking book, the program is one of the longest-standing and most successful of its kind in the nation.

Each year, along with a whole host of partnering organizations from around Greater Cincinnati, the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County highlights a carefully selected title that’s sure to evoke engaging discussion and community dialogue.

From Feb. 1 to March 31, this year’s one book, one community title, "The End of Your Life Book Club," by Will Schwalbe celebrates the pursuit of lifelong reading and how the joy of reading enriches and even changes lives. The book is the inspiring true story of a son and his mother, who start a “book club” that brings them together as her life comes to a close due to pancreatic cancer.

Hear Mackey’s music as well as stories from his Northern Kentucky bar Bobby Mackey's Music World and what it’s like to own one of the most haunted destinations in America.

Mackey is a traditional country music singer whose career has spanned 40 years. His musical style was influenced by Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Buck Owens, Conway Twitty, and Johnny Paycheck.

Mackey opened Bobby Mackey’s Music World in September 1978 in Wilder, Ky., along the Licking River next to the same railroad track that he worked in his youth. The nightclub’s slogan "Come for the ghosts, stay for the music" became a popular quote as the club's popularity began to rise.
