Public Library offers activites to entertain everyone during the holidays

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Public Library of Cincinnati & Hamilton County is offering a wide variety of holiday activities and events at several branches through December. Come watch a favorite holiday movie, hear a story, decorate a cookie, make homemade wrapping paper, or listen to some seasonal music. There’s plenty to do and ehre's just a sampling.

Some Holiday Highlights:

Christmas Spider Ornaments at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, Madeira Branch — Make a beaded spider ornament in honor of the famous folktale of the Christmas Spider. Registration required. 7200 Miami Avenue. 513-369-6028.

Snow Princess Tea Party at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, Groesbeck Branch —Enjoy a story and a movie while having delicious snacks. Everyone will make their very own princess ornament. All girls ages 4-10 are encouraged to dress as a princess. 2994 W. Galbraith Road. 513-369-4454.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Tired of turkey? Want to avoid the holiday shoppers? Then come to the Main Library Saturday, Nov. 24, between10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Wikipizza, an official Wikipedia Loves Libraries event.

Learn about the world's largest encyclopedia and eat free pizza. Topics include an introduction to Wikipedia, how to make your own contributions to this vast resource and what tools the library has available to help.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - There’s something about the holidays that brings out the little kid in all us, and what better what to revisit our childhoods than by viewing the classic illustrations of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, The Night Before Christmas and other favorite books at the Main Library.

The illustrations are from the Peter G. Thomson Collection and make up the exhibit “Wonderland of Fairytales” in the Joseph S. Stern, Jr. Cincinnati Room in the Main Library. The exhibit is on display Nov. 16 through Feb. 17, 2013, and includes alphabet books, Mother Goose nursery rhymes, Shakespeare and a host of other children’s books from the 1880s.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Tis the season to be jolly! So why not make a visit to the Main Library part of your downtown holiday tradition?  Whether you are 2 or 92, there’s something for all ages.  Bring your entire family to enjoy all the excitement surrounding “Dazzle Days” during the first three Saturdays in December. From 1-4 p.m., there will be lively music and interactive performances all in the spirit of the season presented by popular entertainers in the Reading Garden Lounge.  

On Dec. 1, the musical performances by Grammy nominee Zak Morgan at 1 p.m. and College-Conservatory Music Voice Instructor Will Reed at 3 p.m. will add holiday cheer to your afternoon. In between performances, make ’n take a craft together as a family or watch your kids’ faces light up as they create their own holiday mementos.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Remember the Poky Little Puppy? Or maybe you were more of a Tootle the Train fan. Whichever Little Golden Book character was your favorite, you now have the chance to revisit your old friends.

The Main Library is hosting the “Golden Legacy” exhibit, the most extensive public showing ever of original illustration art from American publishing’s best-loved and most consequential picture-book series, Little Golden Books.

The exhibit runs through Feb. 21, 2013, in the Main Library’s Atrium, 800 Vine Street. Hours are: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Wednesday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday; and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Launched in 1942 — the first full year of America’s involvement in World War II — Little Golden Books made high-quality illustrated books available at affordable prices for the first time to millions of young children and their parents.

Dessert & Wine Sweeten holiday shopping during charity art sale

AMBERLY VILLAGE, OH (FOX19) - Wine and dessert will sweeten the holiday shopping experience during an event that raises funds for a variety of non-profits. From paintings to sculpture, textiles and one-of-a kind jewelry, every item is handcrafted and unique. More than 20 regional artists will be on-site, selling their work, on Saturday, November 17, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
 
Open to all of Greater Cincinnati, the sale is held at Adath Israel Congregation, 3201 E. Galbraith Road, at the intersection of Ridge Road—one block south of the Ronald Reagan Cross County Highway. Call: 793-1800 by November 16, for $15 tickets or pay $20 at the door.
