Volunteers needed for UC community service initiative

CLIFTON, OH (FOX19) - University of Cincinnati alumni, students and friends will be working together Saturday, October 2 as volunteers for “Into the Streets,” one of the university’s largest community service efforts of the year.

During this annual event, members of the UC community will work on various volunteer initiatives alongside their UC Uptown campus neighbors.  Volunteer projects are submitted by local non-profits and coordinated through the UC Center for Community Engagement.  Key projects this year include painting low-income housing, offering free health screenings, and completing beautification projects in partnership with the Keep Cincinnati Beautiful Neighborhood Enhancement Program.

Volunteers will meet at the Russell C. Myers Alumni Center on UC’s main campus at 8:00 a.m. for registration and breakfast, before dispersing in teams to their assigned projects for the day. Lunch will be provided at the various worksites, and all projects will be completed by 2:00 p.m. Volunteers will reconvene at the Myers Alumni Center to participate in a wrap-up presentation to celebrate their community improvement efforts.

This year’s event marks the first time in which students and alumni will partner on the “Into the Streets” volunteer projects; previously the annual event consisted of all student volunteers. “Into The Streets” is presented and coordinated by the University of Cincinnati Alumni Association and UC’s Center for Community Engagement.
