Beech Acres to host Parenting Workshop on conflict resolution

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Beech Acres Parenting Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting parents and caregivers in raising children who thrive, will be hosting a ‘For the Love of Kids’ monthly parenting workshop on February 21 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at its Anderson campus (6881 Beechmont Ave; 45230).

The workshop topic is Conflict Resolution: effective techniques for reducing conflict and stress in the home. It is a must for parents who have ever found themselves feeling like they’re not speaking the same language as their children or who have ever started a discussion only to have it end in an argument. Presenters Dan and Diana Rimstidt will teach participants strategies for improving communication and resolving conflict favorably.

GLENDALE, OH (FOX19) - Glendale Elementary School is hosting a free event on Friday, Feb 3 to enjoy International Family Night.

International Family Night will be held from  6:30-8:30pm.

Enjoy the tastes, the sounds, and the arts of many different countries and cultures. Learn and explore a new language, take a family picture in the World Photo Booth, and fill your passport as you "travel" to numerous world exhibits. Enjoy the entertainment of the Irish Fiddle, the African Drum and the Dances of India. 

This is a free family event.

Flying Pig takes off at seven urban libraries to encourage kids to be fit

 

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is partnering with the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon and the Nutrition Council to help youngsters “Be Smart, Eat Well and Move More.”  This year, as part of a pilot “Pig” program, kids can get JOIN IN at the Avondale, Clifton, Corryville, Price Hill, Walnut Hills, and West End branch libraries and the Main Library’s Children’s Learning Center. 

Through May 5, kids (ages 5-12) are invited to keep track of the distances they move, the healthy food choices they make, and the time they spend exercising their brains with the Public Library by logging their efforts on the Kids Marathon “Hog Log,” available at all seven of these Library locations and online at www.flyingpigmarathon.com.

CRC simplifies online search for kids' camp information

 

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - CAMP CRC, an online service for parents to check out all Cincinnati Recreation Commission camp information, is CRC’s home for all its camps – summer, before-school, after-school, specialty and holiday camps.  New for 2012, Camp CRC features “same dates; same rates”, camp dates and three levels of tiered prices THAT are consistent regardless of the location of the camp.

Following a priority registration, open registration for Camp CRC’s summer day camps begins March 5 and continues until camps are full.

CRC summer day camps run Monday, June 11 – Friday, August 17 (excluding Wednesday July 4) and are offered Monday - Friday. Day camp fees are on a tiered basis ranging from $1,000 to $600. For specific fee information, visit www.cincyrec.org and click “Camp CRC” under Quick Links.

Lincoln Heights police reaching out to area children

LINCOLN HEIGHTS, OH (FOX19) - A new event in Lincoln Heights will brings local police officers and children together.

"Cookies with Cops' is scheduled to take place on Thursday, Jan. 26 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Lincoln Heights Municipal Building.

The purpose of this event is to help local children ages 5-12 understand that education, reading and making good decisions are vital to their future.

Lincoln Heights police will hand out scarves and gloves and cookies and drinks will be served.

The Municipal Building is located at 1201 Steffen Avenue in Lincoln Heights.

Beech Acres Has 1/23 Workshop On Strength-Based Parenting

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Beech Acres Parenting Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting parents and caregivers in raising children who thrive, will be hosting its first 2012 ‘For the Love of Kids’ monthly parenting workshops on January 23 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Attendees will learn about Beech Acres’ powerful approach called intentional strength-based parenting that focuses on strengths rather than deficits, and being fully present in the flow of day-to-day moments that families share. The one hour workshop will teach parents how to shift from being reactive to proactive, to see their own and their child's natural strengths, and to be mindful of leveraging the many teachable moments presented everyday by children.

Cost is $15 and pre-registration is required at www.beechacres.org/classes. It will be held at the Anderson Beech Acres Parenting Center, 6881 Beechmont Ave; 45230.

When the weather outside gets too cold, Adventure Station in at Sharon Woods is open

SHARON WOODS, OH (FOX19) - When the weather outside is too cold, and the kids are bored at home, why not treat them to a winter adventure indoors? Sharon Centre in Sharon Woods is the perfect place with The Adventure Station indoor play facility!

Children age two to 12 can explore nature and 19th century life while playing on safe play surfaces. The two-story play area features a treehouse, slide tubes and a cave with hanging stalactites. Children age two to five can have fun in the ball pit too.

Hours for January-April are Tuesday-Saturday, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Sunday 12:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m., closed Mondays (except Martin Luther King Day and President’s Day it is open 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.)

Admission into The Adventure Station is $2.50 per child. A valid Hamilton County Park District Motor Vehicle Permit ($10.00 annual; $3.00 daily) is required to enter the parks.
