Hamilton County Parks free summer concert series is back

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The summer schedule is set for the return of Hamilton County Park District’s Sizzlin’ Summer Concert Series.

The concerts featuring local bands will be held on Saturdays from 7 - 9pm at different parks throughout the district.

The series kicks off June 8, at Miami Whitewater Harbor Forest Point with rock and classic country group, the Danny Frazier Band. Other artists include:

River City Rewind: June 15 at Fernbank Park

Dejavu: June 29 at Sharon Woods

Unbalanced: July 13 at Winton Woods Harbor Amphitheater

The Mistics: July 27 at Winton Woods Harbor Amphitheater

Hickory Robot: August 10 at Miami Whitewater Forest Harbor Point

Systems Go & Prism Brass: August 21 at Sharon Woods Cardinal Meadow

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Public Library and Gold Star Chili want to reward you for participating in Summer Reading! Stop by a participating library branch location to visit the Gold Star Chilimobile, register for Summer Reading, and get a free cheese coney!

Registration open for Nature Day Camps at Sharon Woods

SHARONVILLE, OH (FOX19) - Special day camps are being held at Sharon Woods this summer for children who want to explore nature.

Registration is now open for the four-day camps.

Here are the options:

“Creepy, Crawly, Scaly, Slimy” will be held June 25-28, 2013, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. For $150 per child, kids ages 8-11 can explore the world of animals that are not so soft and fluffy. Campers will learn about the different homes and habits of the animals, and even meet a few up close. Crafts, games and the “science of slime” will round out the activities.

“Creekin' and Muddin’” will be held July 30 through August 2, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. For $170 per child, kids ages 10-13 can catch crayfish, investigate insects and learn how animals tell us about the health of the streams at Sharon Woods. Campers will also get basic canoe instruction at Winton Woods in preparation for a canoe trip on the Little Miami River.

AVONDALE, OH (FOX19) - The Cincinnati Zoo is celebrating Mother's Day by giving all mother's free admission on Sunday, May 12.

Cincinnati Zoo babbies will be on display and the first 750 who stop by the Coldwell Banker West Shell booth in the Zoo’s Vine Street Village will receive a free tote ba.

Teen financial literacy focus of summer workshops at Public Library

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County was one of 14 public libraries nationwide chosen through a competitive process to win a grant to fund “Smart investing@your library®” teen workshops at selected branch locations.

The $57,853 grant was awarded from the American Library Association (ALA) in partnership with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Investor Education Foundation. The Library will work with The Ohio State University Extension Office to develop and present the workshops, which were created to improve teen financial literacy.

“It’s an honor to be selected for this generous grant from the FINRA Investor Education Foundation. We’re excited to deliver information that helps teenagers build a brighter financial future,” said Kimber L. Fender, the Eva Jane Romaine Coombe Director of the Library.

Sharonville Fire Department hosting Touch the Truck event on Saturday

SHARONVILLE, OH (FOX19) - The Sharonville Fire Department will be hosting a Touch the Truck event for the community on Saturday, May 4 from 10am - 2pm.

This event will be held at the Sharonville Community Center located at 11355 Chester Road. Organizers anticipate that 50 different types of vehicles will be on display along with  Air Care and Life Flight helicopters.
