Beech Acres Parenting Center registering for discipline solution workshop

CINCININATI, OH (FOX19) - Beech Acres Parenting Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting parents and caregivers in raising children who thrive, will be hosting a Discipline Solution Workshop for parents on October 9 (in its West campus) and October 11 (on its Anderson campus).

Attendees will learn how to stop nagging, pleading and punishing their child and how to have a more positive relationship instead.

Cost is $15 and pre-registration is required at www.beechacres.org/workshops or by calling Beech Acres Parenting Center at 513-231-6630.

Heritage Village Publishes 2013 Calendar

SHARONVILLE, OH (FOX19) - Just in time for your holiday shopping, Heritage Village Museum has published its first-ever photo calendar.  The calendar features the Village’s historic buildings and are on sale now at the Museum’s gift shop.  Museum hours are Wednesday through Friday, 10am to 4pm. 

The gift shop will also be open during the Village’s family-friendly Halloween event, Haunted Village, October 12-13, 19-20, 26-27, from 6 to 10 pm.  The calendars are $12.78 including tax and may also be purchased by calling the Museum, 513-563-9484.  Phone orders will require an additional $1 for postage

Proceeds from the calendar sales will help Heritage Village Museum provide education programs to children, exhibits and programs to the public, and continue to preserve the historic buildings which make up the Village.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is pleased to announce Katie Laur, award-winning bluegrass musician, will emcee the Library’s innaugural Storytelling in the Park event Sunday, Sept. 9, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Washington Park, downtown Cincinnati.

The free event features professional and amateur Ohio storytellers who will entertain the whole family.  Professional storytellers Harold and Jonatha Wright, Eric Wolf and Omope Carter Daboiku will bring their talents to the park.

AVONDALE, OH (FOX19) - The Cincinnati Zoo is offering half off admission and parking this weekend.

The special price is part of Visitor Appreciation Days on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 24-26.  The zoo is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Visitors will get to enjoy the sights and the new Cat Canyon exhibit, see Sarah, the world's fastest land mammal, at the  Cheetah Encounter and feed giraffes at Giraffe Ridge. In addition, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center will have staff on site teaching visitors healthy activities for kids. 

With Visitor Appreciation Zoo admission is $7.50/adults, $5/children & seniors (ages 2-12 & 62 +) and children under two are FREE.  Parking is $4.

Nearly 38,500 people participated in the Public Library’s Summer Reading Program

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Congratulations to the 328 Summer Readers who won a four-pack of tickets to a Cincinnati Reds game or two tickets to a performance by the Cincinnati Symphony or Pops orchestras. And the grand prizes - LeapFrog Tags, iPod Touches, $25 Gold Star Chili certificates, and Sony e-readers- have been awarded to 246 winners.

Nearly 38,500 readers of all ages took on the challenge of the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County’s 39th annual Summer Reading Program ­‑ Reading Rocks! From June 1 to July 31, the Library’s youngest Superstar Readers read more than 500,000 books while teens and adults logged over 2 million hours of reading.  Everyone who participated was a winner, not only for earning great prizes but also for enjoying a rewarding season of reading.

AVONDALE, OH (FOX19) - The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden wants to express gratitude to their visitors.

As a “Thank You” to Hamilton County for their continued support, Zoo visitors of all ages can enjoy half price admission and parking to the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden during Visitor Appreciation Days, August 24, 25 & 26.  The Zoo will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Visitors will be able to come face-to-face with big cats at the Zoo’s all-new Cat Canyon, feed giraffes at Giraffe Ridge or see Sarah, the world’s fastest land mammal, run at top speed during the Cheetah Encounter.  In addition, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center will have staff on site teaching visitors healthy activities for kids.
