Mercy Health to build new freestanding emergency department in Rookwood area | Health
NORWOOD, OH (FOX19) - Mercy Health, which provides quality care with compassion in your neighborhood, will build a new freestanding Emergency Department in the Rookwood area of Cincinnati. The new emergency department is the centerpiece of Mercy Health – Rookwood Medical Center, which will open in the 3rd quarter of 2013. The Rookwood Medical Center is a department of The Jewish Hospital – Mercy Health and the medical staff of The Jewish Hospital played a key role in the strategy behind its development.
The 24,000 square foot facility, located at the corner of Edwards Road and Williams Avenue near the on-ramp to Interstate 71 north, will also house physician offices and provide other medical services to serve residents of Hyde Park, Mariemont, Mt. Lookout, Norwood and Oakley.
Currently residents in the densely populated neighborhoods around Rookwood Commons need to travel downtown for emergency care. Mercy Health conducted consumer research that found that Rookwood-area residents had two items on their wish lists when it came to emergency care:
- Access to an emergency department located close to home
- Short wait times for medical evaluation and treatment
“Mercy Health has heard your wishes,” said James May, president and CEO of Mercy Health. “Our new, conveniently-located emergency department will be open 24 hours a day, each day of the year. Staffed with top physicians, the patient-friendly ED will have the latest imaging technology and a state-of-the-art lab on site to treat you quickly and get you back to enjoying your life. The new facility will also be home to physician offices and provide other services for your convenience.”
Mercy Health – Rookwood Medical Center is Mercy Health’s third medical center with a freestanding emergency department, joining Mercy Health – Mt. Orab Medical Center to the east and Mercy Health – Harrison Medical Center to the west. Mercy Health’s freestanding EDs have been very successful, earning high patient satisfaction marks for both the quality of care they provide and the speed with which their physicians see and treat patients.
