New online registry meant to cut down on scrap metal thefts
(FOX19) -
A new online registry has been created in an attempt to cut down on scrap metal thefts in Ohio.
The online registry of scrap metal and bulk merchandise dealers is part of Ohio's Homeland Security website. It is designed to cut down on scrap theft and protect infrastructure like railroads, whose spikes and rails are often a target of thieves.
As part of the effort the Ohio Department of Public Safety offers training for law enforcement officers and scrap metal industry representatives.
