Grab a book for Teen On The Same Page & Teen Read Week

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - October is the month for teen reading at the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County.

Coinciding with Teen Read Week in October, teens across Greater Cincinnati are invited to participate in Teen On The Same Page. The community-wide reading initiative asks schools and individual teens to read the same book and engage in face-to-face and virtual discussions, programs, and events with their peers.

This year’s Teen on the Same Page book selection is “Restoring Harmony” by Joëlle Anthony. The author will visit Cincinnati Oct. 16-17 for free school and library programs with teens including a 7 p.m. event at the Main Library Wednesday, Oct. 17.

The Library is partnering with the Art Academy of Cincinnati to provide free programs for teens as part of the contest. The Art Academy’s professional photography instructors will inspire ideas while guiding teens to think outside of the box when conceptualizing ideas for the contest. Basic digital editing instruction will be covered as well as time for critiques of provided examples to help teens to shoot a winning photo. The programs are at:

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Several Cincinnati communities will host events on Tuesday in observance of the 29th National Night Out.

The Cincinnati Police Department has partnered with community groups in each of the city's Districts to highlight crime prevention and safety.  Food, music, and games add a festive spirit to the gatherings.  There will be exhibits, displays and demonstrations with specialized police units and equipment.

National Night Out began in 1984 as a way for the National Association of Town Watch to increase participation in local anticrime efforts.  People were encouraged to turn on their porch lights, lock their doors and come outside to meet with neighbors in solidarity against crime.  That first year, 2.5 million people in 400 communities in 23 states took part.
