CINCINNATI (FOX19) - On Saturday, Cincinnati Habitat for Humanity will celebrate the construction kickoff of its “Hometown House” at 3139 Durrell Avenue in Evanston.

Woodward Career Technology High School will assist with the construction by offering 15 incoming seniors eight weeks of paid employment as they build the home this summer.  To fund and execute the entire project, Habitat has partnered with Apollo Heating, Cooling and Plumbing, the Formica Corporation, Procter & Gamble, Fox 19, Defender Direct, Steven Schaeffer & Associates and the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati.

GLENDALE, OH (FOX19) – The Village Council is now working on balancing the Glendale operating budget for 2013 and beyond.

Administrator Loretta Rokey says 2012 Village revenues are down about $220,000 from 2011.  She says the major causes are property devaluations and loss of state and miscellaneous revenues.  The shortfall may not sound huge compared to some other cities and townships, but Glendale only has about 2100 works out to about $102 per person.  Because of property reassessments, in 2012 the Glendale component of the average property tax bill to residents decreased by about $160/yr.

CINCINNATI (FOX19) – Hamilton County Auditor Dusty Rhodes is warning people who own property in Hamilton County about a company named ValueAppeal LLC that is sending letter to homeowners saying the county may have overvalued their properties and offering a “custom report” for $99.

Rhodes said owners can do the research on their own and can file an appeal for no charge with the Board of Revision (BOR).  “We often advise homeowners to contact a Realtor who is active in their area for an independent opinion of their value,” he said.  “They can also review recent sales of comparable properties on our website www.hcauditor.org”.

The site says "If you are paying too much, our Tax Appeal Kit is guaranteed to lower your tax bill—or your money back. Users save an average of $1,346 a year in property taxes."

Historic tax credits to help renovate 100-year-old Haddon Hall

 

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - State Representative Alicia Reece (D-Cincinnati) announced Friday that over $1 million in tax credits has been approved for the rehabilitation of the historic Haddon Hall building in Avondale. The rehabilitation of the century old building will cost roughly $12 million and provide for several onsite jobs.

Originally erected in 1910, Haddon Hall was converted to affordable housing in 1982.  The Reading Road building  is nearly 130,000 square foot in size and houses senior and disabled residents in 114 apartments.  Slated to begin early this year, the rehabilitation project by Ohio owners Wallick-Hendy Development Company aims to upgrade building systems to improve resident amenities and increase the energy efficiency of the aging building.  Renovation efforts should be completed by the fall of 2014.

Avondale apartment rehab project leads lists of Ohio housing bond awards

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) Board on December 21 authorized the issuance of up to $8.5 million in Multifamily Bonds for housing construction and rehab in Cincinnati's Avondale neighborhood and in Washington Court House, along with funds from another program in three other Ohio cities. Multifamily Housing Bonds are tax-exempt revenue bonds designed to lower the costs of borrowing for housing developers. The program provides financial assistance for the development and rehabilitation of affordable housing. 

The projects approved by the Board include: 

* Alston Park in Avondale, Hamilton County - $4,500,000 in Multifamily Bonds

Alston Park involves the acquisition and substantial rehabilitation of a residential rental facility for families located in Avondale, Hamilton County.

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The Cincinnati Preservation Association celebrated some of the best structures in the city this weekend at their annual meeting, itself held in a historic school building.  Here's a release form the CPA with all the winners. 

(CINCINNATI, OHIO) On November 13th, Cincinnati Preservation Association (CPA) presented its annual Preservation Awards for 2011 at its 47th Annual Meeting, which was held at Hughes High School. Before an audience of 70 members and guests, CPA presented eight awards for achievement in historic preservation in two categories: Rehabilitation and Sustainability. CPA’s Advocacy Committee, chaired by Arthur Sturbaum, reviewed the award nominations submitted and chose the winners.

Two awards honored restoration and renovation of great public buildings and spaces: Hughes High School and City Council Chambers. CPA commends the City of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Public Schools for their stewardship of these landmarks.
