Taft Museum of Art displays students’ artwork at Main Library

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Taft Museum of Art’s annual Artists Reaching Classrooms (ARC) exhibition is on display through May 16 in the atrium of the Main Library. The exhibit showcases art, including painting, photography, digital design and ceramics, created by students from 12 area high schools.

Each work is accompanied by an artist’s statement, providing an explanation of the student’s process and intent. ARC is a program offered by the Taft Museum of Art that immerses high school art students in Cincinnati’s visual arts community and exposes them to art careers and professionals. Scholarships are being awarded Wednesday, May 1, during a 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. reception at the Main Library.

Fundraiser to support Bethany class trip to Washington D.C. on Saturday

GLENDALE, OH (FOX19) - The Bethany School Class of 2014 is holding a fundraiser to help support a trip for 8th graders to Washington D.C.

The event is being held on Saturday, Aoril 27 from 6pm - 9pm at the Bethany School Gym on Albion Avenue.

Admission is $5 dollars and there will be wines and desserts available for an additional fee.

Education professor named Xavier Teacher of the Year

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)  - Thomas Knestrict, associate professor of education at Xavier University, has been named the Bishop Fenwick Teacher of the Year by the Xavier chapter of Alpha Sigma Nu, the Jesuit honor society.

A resident of Mason, Knestrict has taught at Xavier since 2004. He received an EdD in special education from the University of Cincinnati and a BS in special education from Kent State University. He is well-known for his Remarkable Families Symposium, which presents the opportunity for families raising children with special needs to access resources, learn of new opportunities and to network with other families in order to “not only survive but to thrive.

Xavier University's Sister Rose Ann Fleming being honored

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Sister Rose Ann Fleming, athletic academic advisor at Xavier University, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Cincinnati Sports Professionals Network 2013 awards dinner on Wednesday, May 8.

Since she became Xavier’s academic adviser in 1985, Fleming has helped graduate every men’s basketball player who has reached his final year of athletic eligibility. In 1991, then-coach Pete Gillen named her the men’s basketball team’s first-ever Most Valuable Player. In 2000, she was inducted into Xavier’s athletic hall of fame. "I try to make sure each student feels he or she is a special individual," she said.

Fleming came to Xavier in 1982 after serving as the president of Trinity College in Washington. She joined the Xavier faculty so she could also work toward an MBA and a law degree. She also has a PhD in educational administration from Miami University, which helped her in her counseling role.

Weekend fundraisers to support Pleasant Hill Academy class trip

COLLEGE HILL, OH (FOX19) - Students from Pleasant Hill Academy are hoping to gain public support for an upcoming class trip by hosting two weekend fundraisers.

A rummage sale is being held on Saturday, April 20 at Pleasant Hill from 9am - 1pm.

The sale is open to the public, so everyone is invited to participate. For sellers who want space to set up, rent prices are $15 for a six foot table and $25 for a 12 foot table.

Another fundraiser being held on Sunday, April 21 will make you want to move while raising money for the students. A Zumbathon will take place at Pleasant Hill Academy from 4pm - 6pm.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for those under 18.

Proceeds will benefit the students class trip to Washington, D.C.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Western & Southern Financial Group has announced 20 finalists for the 2013 Dr. Lawrence C. Hawkins Educator of the Year Award.

Finalists for 2013 were chosen from nominations submitted by Cincinnati Public School teachers and administrators.

Top 50 U.S. high school list includes Wyoming and Walnut Hills

Top 50 U.S. high school list includes Wyoming and Walnut Hills

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Wyoming and Walnut Hills made the list of top U.S. public high schools and both ranked in the top 20.

The list was published in a new report on 'thebestschools.org.'

Wyoming was ranked #18 and Walnut Hills came in at #20 respectively and are the only local schools on the list.

Both high schools are praised for offering a wide range of AP courses to students.

Schools on the list were ranked based on several factors including; ACT scores, SAT scores, average weighted GPA, and the API (Academic Performance Index).
