Sycamore and St. Ursula play benefit match

 

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP (FOX19)- This Thursday, May 3rd at 7:30 p.m. the Sycamore girls varsity lacrosse team will play St. Ursula in a charity lacrosse game to support the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

The game is at the Sycamore Jr. High stadium. Sycamore says they will “pack the stands in purple”.

A cancer survivor will speak about the disease and the organization. There will also be a raffle and food sales, with proceeds going to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

CRC still needs lifeguards for summer

 

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The Cincinnati Recreation Commission still needs 35 lifeguards to staff the pools for the summer.  CRC is hiring a total of 225 lifeguards for the season.

Lifeguards need to be age 15 or older and earn $8.16 per hour.  Previous lifeguard experience counts toward higher pay rates. Complete training is provided through CRC’s American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Classes.

The next training class begins Friday, April 27 at 5:45 p.m. at Cincinnati Boys and Girls Club LeBlond indoor pool, 1621 Logan Street, 45202.  The Aquatics & Pools section of CRC’s home page has more details on upcoming Lifeguard Training Classes.

CRC lifeguards must meet a variety of swimming requirements. To help prepare for these swim requirements, Swim Stroke Clinics are offered Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:15 – 8:00 p.m. at the Cincinnati Boys and Girls Club LeBlond indoor pool (which is not CRC’s pool).

Cincinnati State names Tom Hathaway athletic director

 

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Cincinnati State has named Tom Hathaway, a veteran sports administrator, to be its new athletic director.  He succeeds Theresa Check, who recently retired.

If the name sounds familiar, it is because much of Hathaway’s  more than three decades of experience came during his 27 years as assistant athletic director at the University of Cincinnati, where he was responsible for sports communications and served in a variety of administrative roles.

CINCINNATI (FOX19) – A 5K run in Spring Grove Village on Sunday will include cell phone and tennis shoe recycling, ‘green; information booths, and support the nonprofit that created the first LEED-certified houses in Cincinnati, plants trees, distributes rain barrels, and does more for our environment and the city.

Presented by the nonprofit organization the Cincinnati Northside Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation (CNCURC), runners, walkers, and the entire family are invited! At the event, the Cincinnati Zoo will be collecting old cell phones to recycle and CAIN (Churches Active in Northside) and Soles for Souls will be collecting gently worn shoes to distribute to families in need.  Worn out shoes will also be collected and recycled for their base materials to be used in other products.

The 5K will be an official timed USTAF (US Track & Field) race. However, walkers and the entire family are also encouraged to participate.

Cincinnati State women fall to Lake Michigan in second round of NJCAA tournament

 

EAST PEORIA, IL, (FOX19) - The Cincinnati State women's basketball team lost 75-70 to Lake Michigan College on Wednesday night in the second round of the National Junior College Athletic Association national tournament.

Lake Michigan was led by Breauna Rivoli-Johnson's 31 points followed by 21 points from Jabria Hill.  For Cincinnati State, sophomore Taylor Frazier finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds.  Alexis Fitzpatrick scored 12 points and recorded a game high 6 assists.  Dominique Fischer finished with 11 points followed by Kara McLemore with 10.

With the loss, Cincinnati State falls to 32-2 overall and will now compete in the NJCAA's national consolation bracket against Kirkwood on Thursday at 4 p.m. EST.

SHARONVILLE, OH (FOX19) –The Hamilton County Park District is presenting the 2012 Photography Travel Series on Friday, March 16, 23, April 13, 20 and 27 at Sharon Woods Sharon Centre.  These programs offer a unique look around the world with commentary by local photographers.

Robert Ruchhoft takes a tour of Natural Bridge State Park and Red River Gorge, which includes archaeological, prehistoric and historical backgrounds of the area, as well as geological and botanical features.

March 23
7:30 p.m.: TRIP TO CUBA TODAY
Neal Jefferies visits the beautiful island of Cuba, enjoying the friendly people and the wonderful music. He will also talk about a dark side, where people are coping with the loss of personal freedoms.

Cincinnati State women advance to regional championship

 

TOLEDO, OH (FOX19) - The Cincinnati State women's basketball team won 84-58 in its regional semi-final matchup against Edison Community College on Friday night at Owens community College in Toledo.

The Surge were led by sophomores Dominique Fischer, Taylor Frazier, Kara McLemore, and Brittiney Latimer. Fischer scored a team high 15 points, all coming in the second half.  Frazier followed with 14 points and recorded 8 rebounds while holding Edison's leading scorer, forward Brianna Innocent, to just 8 points on the evening.  McLemore finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Latimer contributed 9 points and 9 rebounds while coming off the bench.

The Surge will now advance to the National Junior College Athletic Association Region XII championship. The game is scheduled for 3:00 pm. The Surge, who are defending tournament champions, will look to earn a second consecutive trip to the NJCAA national tournament with a win.
