Bike and Ride FREE on Metro, TANK and CTC on May 17

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)  To celebrate Bike to Work Day, bicycle commuters can ride free on Metro, the Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky (TANK) or Clermont Transportation Connection (CTC) on Friday, May 17, when they transport their bikes on the easy-to-use bus bike racks.

Bike racks are located on the front of all Metro, TANK and CTC buses and can be used at all bus stops including Government Square downtown. Each bike rack can accommodate two bikes. For safety reasons, bikes are not allowed on-board buses unless they can be folded and stowed under a seat.

Metro and TANK will also be at the Bike to Work Day Celebration on Washington Park on May 17, from noon to 1 p.m., to demonstrate the ease of biking and riding buses. Visit http://www.queencitybike.com/ for information on Cincinnati Bike Month activities.

Metro and TANK were recognized as “Bike Friendly Destinations” for providing advocacy and infrastructure improvements to support bicycling for employees and riders in 2011 and 2012.

Four month road closure due to construction in Sharonville

SHARONVILLE, OH (FOX19) - Fields Ertel Road will be closed to traffic from Reed Hartman Highway West to the Copperfield/Indian Creek intersection beginning Monday, April 15 through Friday, August 16.

Construction crews will be working on the roads in that area.

Detour signs will direct traffic to I-275 East or Westbound.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - National Passport Day is Saturday, March 9, and the Main Library is making it easy to apply for a passport all weekend. The Information & Reference Department, located on the second floor of the South Building, will have additional staff available to assist customers with their passport applications Saturday, March 9, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, March 10, from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Appointments are strongly encouraged, but walk-ins are accepted as staffing permits. It's Just a Test... Metro Emergency Exercise on Feb. 13

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)  – Metro staff will be taking part in a full-scale security exercise on Wednesday, Feb. 13. Metro bus service will not be affected.

The training exercise is targeted to address counter-terrorism for Metro staff and community constituents including local fire and police departments, the Hamilton County EMA and other organizations. It will be held primarily at Metro’s Bond Hill facility, but will also include efforts at the Queensgate facility and Metro’s downtown location at 602 Main Street.

Metro was awarded funding to be used toward designing and executing a simulation exercise as a part of the federal 2010 Transit Security Grant Program. The funding also included a tabletop-style exercise that was completed in August. Metro is working with ARMADA, an operational risk and all hazards solutions provider based in Central Ohio, to perform these emergency exercises.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)  – To work, to school, to play and everywhere in between – more people rode Metro last year.

Metro had a 4.2% ridership increase compared to 2011, significantly higher than the national average increase for bus systems. Last year, Metro provided almost 17.4 million passenger trips. Including Access service for people with disabilities, Metro provided almost 17.6 million rides total.

Huge increases in university pass program ridership: In addition, ridership for Metro’s student pass programs at local universities is up significantly. Metro had a 24% increase in ridership at the University of Cincinnati and a 19% increase at Cincinnati State in 2012, compared to 2011.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) – Metro buses will operate on a holiday/Sunday schedule on Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25, and New Year's Day, Tuesday, Jan. 1. Access, Metro’s service for people with disabilities, will also operate on a holiday/Sunday schedule on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1

Metro and Access will operate regular service on Christmas Eve (Monday, Dec. 24) and New Year’s Eve (Monday, Dec. 31).
 
Metro administrative offices, the Metro call center and the Metro sales office will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

Free rides on Metro's Holly Jolly Downtown Trolley are available on Saturdays through Dec. 22, from noon - 5 p.m. Trolley service runs about every five minutes. Board in front of the Westin on Fifth Street or at designated Holly Jolly Downtown Trolley stops on Fifth Street and Fourth Street.
