Metro Begins Planning for Future Improvements

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)  Since its last transit plan in 2008, Metro has added new kinds of buses (hybrid, “accordion” and smaller buses), partnered with the Cincinnati Zoo on a new LEED-certified transit center, added a new transit center/ park & ride in Western Hills with direct service to Uptown, introduced new fare options, and improved electronic communications to customers.

Now we want to know:  Which way do you think should Metro go next?

Metro is posing that question to the community as part of a new Way to go* initiative to better meet Greater Cincinnati’s transportation needs and plan for future improvements.

This spring, Metro will open a dialogue with the community to better understand what transportation needs exist and how to meet them. Metro will use the ideas it gathers through community outreach to create a plan by the end of the year.

Metro introduces new 30-day "Rolling" passes

Metro introduces new 30-day "Rolling" passes

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Beginning March 1, Metro’s new fareboxes will accept new 30-day rolling passes, which will replace current calendar-month-only passes.

The new 30-day rolling passes provide greater flexibility by allowing the customer to choose when to start the 30-day pass period by simply inserting the pass into the farebox on the bus.  For example, if the customer activates a 30-day rolling pass on March 5, it will be good until April 3.

The new 30-day rolling passes are available for the same zones and at the same prices as the current monthly passes.

Late last year, Metro installed new fareboxes on all of its buses, thanks to federal funding for the project.  The new fareboxes replaced 17-year-old technology.

Metro’s new fareboxes will enable new payment options, beginning this summer:

·         go*SMART “tap & go” smartcards that can be re-loaded or re-used
