Cute, tree-leaping sifakas now at the Cincinnati Zoo

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - For the first time in Zoo history, the Cincinnati Zoo is home to the primate known as the sifaka.  Pronounced shee-FA-kah, they are most commonly recognized from the PBS kids show, “Zoboomafoo”.  The Zoo’s two new lemurs are a male named, “Rinaldo,” age 7, who came to Cincinnati from the Los Angeles Zoo in California and a female named, “Wilhelmina,” age 2, who came from the Duke Lemur Center.

Two Cincinnati Zoo keepers traveled to the Duke Lemur Center in North Carolina to escort the two sifakas to Cincinnati and spent several days learning how to best care for these beautiful creatures.  The pair, which is recommended to breed, is now on exhibit in the Zoo’s Jungle Trails indoor exhibit.   The pair are being introduced to the local media Thursday morning.

Sifakas are large lemurs built for a specialized type of locomotion called vertical clinging and leaping.

Spending Mega Millions prize may be no easy task

Spending Mega Millions prize may be no easy task

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - If you should happen to win the upcoming Mega Millions jackpot, and your goal is to use up all the money as fast as possible, you might want to move out of town.

If you are simply determined to dispose of the money, that's no problem.  You could donate it all to a leading university or hospital.  You could gamble it away around the world.  You could give it away a million at a time to people you met in bars.  If you asked a luxury shipbuilder to use it all on a yacht, they could oblige you.  You could buy the City of Cincinnati a streetcar system.

On the other hand, if you go shopping around the Tri-State at advertised prices, you might find that the money, which is an estimated $198.2 million if taken in cash, goes a long way.

We looked for a group of mostly Cincinnati-area items that a person could buy, and found it hard to use up the money.  For starters, we added up the price of the 50 most-expensive homes c

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - A pair of actors from The Ides of March" took advantage of an off-day a few days ago to visit the Cincinnati Zoo.

The Zoo's Chad Yelton says they sent out a tweet when the film started production here a few weeks ago, inviting cast members to a behind-the-scenes tour.

He doesn't know whether anyone with the film took note of it, but a couple weeks later the Zoo got a call from Evan Rachel Wood's assistance expressing interest.  By the time the day arrived, Ryan Gosling and his assistant joined the entourage.

Among the highlights of the tour:

The group met Schottzie the elephant, and other Indian elephants.

  • Gosling and Wood were examined by a sloth named Moe.
  • Wood helped train a bird form the bird show.
  • Gosling hand-fed a female Indian Rhinoceros.
  • Wood was ignored by a mountain lion cub.
