Keep Cincinnati Beautiful (KCB) received Polar Bears International (PBI)’s highest award for conservation, “The Paw of Approval”, in recognition of its newest program, Sustainability In Action (SIA).

Last year, nine schools recycled and composted over 120 tons of waste during a five month period. This year, eight schools are diverting thousands of pounds of lunchroom waste each week from the landfill by recycling and composting. KCB is also providing classroom programs, assemblies, and field trips throughout the year to students K-12  designed to educate students on energy and water conservation. “This program not only accomplishes the goal of recycling but also educates our young people on the importance of eliminating our ‘disposable society’ and protecting the Earth’s resources for future generations,” said Robert W. Buchanan, President and CEO of PBI.

The award was presented in front of students and sponsors at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden on Tuesday, October 23.
